All of the information needed to complete the quiz successfully can be found in the accompanying fact sheets, work sheets and glossary.
Nationwide Education's sustainable living programmes are for ages 4 through to 16. You can choose to use any programme to meet the needs of your child.
Interactive Quiz
The Sustainable Communities quiz consists of a main board game and five interactive quiz formats. The game can be played by one or two players and also provides a practice mode, enabling players to answer multiple questions on any of the five sustainability themes (i.e. travel, buildings, environment issues, energy and recycling, communities). To start the game, players must first find a matching pair of images; if successful they can access a quiz question.
There are five interactive quiz formats, and each format includes questions on all five of the learning themes. Below is a summary of each quiz format. Click here to download the how to play instructions from the game.
Scoring:
Players are awarded points for correct answers, there is a maximum score
of three points for each quiz format.
Hint:
A number of the quiz formats provide players with a 'Hint' which can
be used by the player to help them find the correct answer. Use of the hint
button costs one point.
Game end:
The game ends when the player (or players in the two player mode) answers
all five questions, regardless of whether or not their answers are correct.
In the two player mode, the winner is the player (or team) with the highest
score.
Picture Jumble
KS3: Players are presented with a photo image that has been
segmented, randomly into a grid. Every few seconds, the segments are re-shuffled.
Players are asked a question related to the image. This appears at the bottom
of the screen. They must select the correct answer from the options shown.
KS4: Players are presented with a photo image that has been
covered by 'blanking cells' to obscure the image. These blanking cells randomly
re-shuffle every few seconds. Players are asked a question and must select
the correct answer from the list on the right.
Dial an Answer
This is a multiple choice quiz question. Players are asked a question at the bottom of the screen. They rotate the 'wheel', which provides answer options and select what they think is the right answer.
Order Sorter
Players are shown four objects and must put them in the correct order in response to the instruction or question at the bottom of the screen. Highlighting an object (by rolling-over) reveals information to help the player select the correct order.
Word Chain
Similar to a single clue crossword, players are given a clue at the bottom of the screen and an indication of how many letters make up the answer. They must find and spell the answer which is hidden in a 3x3 letter grid (4x4 letter grid for ages 14-16) and 'click' the letters in the correct sequence. Any direction can be used provided the selected letter cell is adjacent (diagonally or otherwise) to the next.
Anagram
Players must find two words relating to a question that appears at the bottom of the screen. The answers are jumbled up and provided in a 4x4 'keypad'. The actual number of letters needed for each word are indicated by dashes. Letters must be clicked in the correct order to spell a word.
Word Bar
Players need to find the correct answer to the question by moving the word bars up and down to reveal a word in the centre line. They click 'submit' to check if their answer is correct.
